Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro is pinning his hopes on Napoli’s top striker, Victor Osimhen, to lead his team to victory in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
Osimhen excelled as the top scorer in the qualifiers, netting 10 goals and raising expectations for his performance in the tournament.
Following his recognition as the best men’s player at the CAF Awards last December, much anticipation surrounds Osimhen’s role in the team.
Peseiro is also rallying behind Osimhen’s bid to claim the tournament’s top scorer accolade.
“From our team, he (Osimhen) was the highest goal scorer during the qualifiers,” Peseiro said at a dinner organised to celebrate Osimhen’s coronation as Africa’s best player at the team’s training base in Abu Dhabi on Friday night.
“Of course his teammates helped him to achieve that. I hope and wish he wins the highest goal scorer and help us win the tournament,” he added.
