Revenue Generation: ZSIRS bans negotiation between tax payers, staff

Zamfara State Internal Revenue Service (ZSIRS) management has enforced a prohibition on any form of negotiation between its staff and taxpayers, specifically regarding cash payments.

Hajiya Rakkiya Ahmed Dodo, the Executive Chairperson of the board, made this announcement during the Zamfara Radio Hausa’s weekly phone-in program titled, “da Ruwan ciki akan ja na rijiya” on Thursday.

Expressing her firm commitment, the Executive Chairperson emphasized the need to rejuvenate the revenue accumulation process for the State Government.

She highlighted that the government’s ability to execute vital developmental projects directly impacting the populace relies heavily on the complete cooperation of taxpayers.

“The significance of tax payment to the government cannot be over-emphasized as it assists in complementing policies and programmes’ implementation”, she added.

The Executive Chairperson, who expressed concern over lack of awareness among taxpayers across the State, further stated that her leadership would not relent in evolving more ways of enlightening the taxpayers through collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

According to her, the relevant stakeholders include Ministries, Departments, Boards and Agencies, as well as Private Sectors for achieving desired goals.

“The appropriate channel of tax-payment will be through branches of commercial banks in the State approved by the Board to avoid fraudulent activities,” she said.
