Hajarat Usman Sani, a victim of the fire incident in Idah, Kogi State, has passed away. Sources from her family confirmed that she succumbed to severe burns on Friday morning in Idah.
This tragic event unfolded when unidentified arsonists set fire to the Oketekwe residence of the victims in Idah Local Government Area of the State on Thursday morning. The blaze resulted in the fatalities of Mallama Meimunat Opaluwa Sani, her daughter Hajarat Usman Sani, and a five-year-old granddaughter named Onechojo. Mallama Meimunat Opaluwa Sani and Onechojo tragically lost their lives on Thursday.
The distressing incident has sparked widespread condemnation, prompting calls from key figures in Kogi for security agencies to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous act. Among those expressing dismay is the Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, who denounced the deaths of the victims as both tragic and sacrilegious.
As of Friday afternoon, the Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Police had not issued any statements regarding the incident.
