The Federal Government reported that the National Identity Number enrollment surged to 104.16 million by the close of 2023, as disclosed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in its latest data.
Comparing the figures, there was a 10.3 million increase in NIN enrollments throughout 2023, marking a rise from 94.03 million in December 2022.
In terms of gender distribution, NIMC’s data indicates that 59.12 million, accounting for 56.8 percent of individuals in the NIN database, are male. Conversely, 45.04 million, constituting 43.2 percent of total enrollees, are female.
This progress occurs amidst the impending deadline set by mobile network operators for the linkage of Subscribers Identification Modules (SIMs) to NIN, slated for February 28, 2024.
Yet, the current count of NIN enrollments falls short of Nigeria’s World Bank target of 148 million by June 2024.
