N37bn alleged fraud: EFCC drills ex-minister, Sadiya Umar-Farouk today

Today, Sadiya Umar-Farouk, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, is scheduled to face questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding an alleged N37.1 billion fraud.

This development unfolds following the EFCC’s apprehension of Halima Shehu, an official from the National Social Investment Programme Agency, also implicated in the same alleged fraud of N37.1 billion alongside the former minister, Sadiya Umar-Farouk. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reportedly sanctioned Shehu’s suspension on Tuesday.

An EFCC official, preferring anonymity, shed light on Shehu’s arrest, citing her involvement in the purported fraud amounting to N37.1 billion during her tenure as the former National Coordinator of the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme under Sadiya Umar-Farouk’s supervision.

Furthermore, reports surfaced eight days ago indicating that the EFCC summoned contractor James Okwete for questioning over alleged fraudulent activities during the ex-minister’s tenure.
