Iwobi, Bassey forms good for Eagles – Oliseh

According to PUNCH Sports Extra, Sunday Oliseh, former Super Eagles player and coach, sees the current form of Fulham’s Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey as a positive indication for Nigeria’s prospects at the upcoming 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, set to begin in 12 days.

Iwobi and Bassey, both selected in Jose Peseiro’s 25-man squad for the tournament, notably contributed to Fulham’s hard-earned 2-1 victory over Arsenal at Craven Cottage. Their stellar performance thwarted Arsenal’s aspirations of leading the table into the new year, with Raul Jiminez leveling the score in the 29th minute after Bukayo Saka’s early opener. Bobby Decordova-Reid then secured the winning goal for Fulham in the 60th minute.

“Extremely impressed by the maturity and discipline put up versus Arsenal, by Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi as they played decisive roles in Fulham’s victory over a seemingly, mentally tired Arsenal. Encouraging for the AFCON,” Oliseh posted after the game.

Impressed by their display, Oliseh praised both players for their efforts. As they conclude their last game for Fulham before joining the AFCON squad, Iwobi and Bassey will regroup with the team in the United Arab Emirates on January 2.
