Peter Schmeichel, the former Manchester United goalkeeper, criticized Antony, stating that the Brazilian lacks an understanding of the game. After the Red Devils’ 2-1 loss against Nottingham Forest, Schmeichel suggested that manager Erik ten Hag should contemplate benching Antony following his disappointing performance.
Antony had returned to the starting lineup at City Ground after being omitted from the team during the win against Aston Villa on Boxing Day. However, the 23-year-old struggled to make an impact and was substituted for Amad Diallo after 54 minutes.
“I really think he should rethink Antony’s position. He doesn’t give much to the team. He frustrates his teammates. It’s really frustrating.
“He’s had an opportunity for a long time; this is a player that hasn’t scored this season; he’s not made an assist and he’s not scored, it’s like he’s not really understanding the game,” Schmeichel said.
