Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State oversaw the heartwarming reunion of seven children from Bauchi State with their parents this past Friday.
In a proactive move, the Kano State Police dismantled an inter-state child abduction and trafficking syndicate, apprehending nine suspects across seven states after months of tracking. The diligent investigation initiated by the Kano Police Command stemmed from reports of missing children.
Commissioner of Police, Mr Husseini Gumel, disclosed that the syndicate had operated for over a decade, engaging in inter-state trafficking, abduction, and the trade of minors. The collaborative efforts led to the syndicate’s dismantling, unveiling its network spanning Kano, Bauchi, Gombe, Lagos, Delta, Anambra, and Imo states.
Governor Yusuf, moved to tears by the commendable efforts of the Kano State police, expressed gratitude for their diligent work. However, he was dismayed by the discovery of seven children abducted from Bauchi State and trafficked to Anambra and Lagos.
Yusuf urged parents to maintain vigilance over their children’s well-being and called on his Bauchi State counterpart to take decisive legal action against the arrested suspects.
Representing the relieved parents, Malam Abdulmutallif Sa’ad from Bauchi, expressed gratitude to Yusuf and the Kano police for the children’s recovery and pledged increased vigilance.
The nine suspects, intercepted at Mariri motor park in Kano while en route to Lagos and Anambra States with the stolen children from Bauchi, were apprehended by the Kano State police.
Mrs Sha’awanatu Yusuf, Director of Public Prosecution at the Bauchi Ministry of Justice, emphasized the unity between Kano and Bauchi States for the common good. She assured that the Bauchi government would ensure legal actions to hold the suspects accountable under the law.
As a gesture of support, Governor Yusuf of Kano State donated N500,000 to each of the seven rescued children.
