The Bayelsa State Government issued a stern warning against an upcoming protest scheduled for December 26, intending to disrupt oil production at Oil Mining Lease (OML) 29 operated by Aiteo Eastern Exploration.
In a statement released on Sunday by Chief Ayiba Duba, the Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, the government emphasized its zero tolerance for any disturbance of activities in Nembe Basambiri. It explicitly stated that youth and chiefs’ council activities remained suspended in the area.
The government alerted security agencies about the planned protest, describing it as a deliberate attempt to halt oil production at the OML 29 oil fields, which could adversely affect the state’s crucial oil derivation revenue.
Firmly committed to maintaining peace in Nembe Basambiri and throughout Bayelsa, the government emphasized its stance against any action or pretext that might jeopardize the existing peace and stability.
