Algerian club’s goalkeeper, coach die in auto crash

A tragic team bus crash in Algeria claimed the lives of both the goalkeeper and assistant coach of a prominent top-flight club, leading the national federation to cancel all scheduled matches for the weekend.

The accident occurred while the MC El Bayadh team was en route to Tizi Ouzou for their upcoming fixture against JS Kabylie, resulting in ten other players sustaining injuries, as confirmed by the Algerian Football Federation.

The federation revealed that the bus crashed in Tiaret, situated approximately 150 kilometers (90 miles) away from the Mediterranean coast. However, details regarding the cause of the crash were not provided.

It said that as a mark of respect, it had decided to “suspend all footballing activities nationwide this weekend across all leagues and competitions”.

It added that the draw for the next round of Algeria’s main cup competition, scheduled for December 26, would now be held later.
