Lagos removes illegal structures in Parkview Estate, Banana Island

The Lagos State government has initiated the dismantling of unauthorized structures constructed along the setbacks of the Mojisola Onikoyi Shoreline Estate – Parkview Estate – Banana Island collector drain in Ikoyi.

As reported by the Guardian Nigeria, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed this action during an inspection of the area on Tuesday. He cited the expiry of the contravention notice issued to properties erected within the specified location as the reason for this measure.

Wahab clarified that this action aims to ensure unobstructed access to the collector drain for regular cleaning and maintenance purposes.

He highlighted that numerous buildings in the vicinity failed to maintain the required 3-meter distance from the drainage channel. However, the government had initially stipulated a slightly reduced space of 2.5 meters.

The Commissioner cautioned that any building not compliant with the specified guidelines would face demolition. Wahab also urged owners of the affected properties to proactively dismantle encroaching structures before the deadline expires.
