Police arrest barrister seen assaulting wife in viral video

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has captured Barrister Ekere Sunday Ebong, aged 55, residing at plot 40 L Line Ewet Housing Estate, after a video surfaced showing him assaulting his wife.

According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon, on Monday, the suspect, identified as a repeat offender in domestic violence cases, was arrested following directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Olatoye Durosinmi.

CP Durosinmi cautioned individuals involved in violent acts in the state to cease such actions immediately. He urged families to seek amicable resolutions to disputes rather than resorting to physical aggression.

The statement noted that after thorough investigations, the suspect will face charges in court for his actions.

“In a video that went viral, the suspect assaulted his wife, and dehumanized her, leading to various grievous injuries. He is a known habitual perpetrator of violent acts against his wife over the years.

“As an Agency saddled with the protection of lives and property and maintenance of law and order, we cannot allow Barrister Ebong to continue this flagrant abuse of human rights, hence, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olatoye Durosinmi, ordered the arrest of the suspect to prevent murder and breakdown of law and order,” parts of the statement read.
