Over 10 Abuja passengers kidnapped in Enugu

In a harrowing incident, more than 10 passengers on a journey from Abuja to Enugu were reportedly kidnapped along the Ette – Umuopu Enugu-Ezike Road in the Igbo Eze North local government area of Enugu State, Southeast Nigeria.

The distressing event unfolded on Wednesday evening, a short distance from Umuopu community, as the vehicle was en route from Abuja to Enugu.

A video obtained by Anyika TV and seen by SaharaReporters reveals a Peace Mass Transit van (fleet number 583) parked in the middle of the road, doors ajar, and windows shattered. Passengers’ belongings are strewn within the vehicle and on the ground.

The video’s narrator, speaking in pidgin English, discloses that the attack occurred recently, with only one passenger managing to escape the clutches of the kidnappers. The vehicle’s engine continues to run.

The narrator reports that all abducted passengers and the bus driver have been taken into the bush by the kidnappers. While soldiers have arrived at the scene, they have not yet ventured into the bush to attempt a rescue.

In the narrator’s words: “Some kidnappers just abducted the passengers of this van and its driver. They have taken them inside the bush.”

“The vehicle had passed the market and was already close to the expressway when the incident occurred. This place is close Umuopu but in the community yet. Some soldiers have come but they have not entered the bush.”

Despite the severity of the situation, the Enugu State police have remained silent on the incident. SaharaReporters’ attempts to contact the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, were unsuccessful, as he did not answer calls or respond to a text message seeking comment on the abduction at the time of filing this report.
