Christmas merrymaking worthless without help to poor people – Catholic Bishop

The Catholic Diocese of Oyo’s Bishop, Most Rev. Emmanuel Badejo, delivered a poignant Christmas message in Ibadan, urging Christian believers to embrace the true spirit of the season by extending a helping hand to the needy.

In his message titled “No real Christmas in conflict and on empty stomachs,” Bishop Badejo emphasized the significance of love, peace, and harmony during Christmas, especially amidst the prevalent challenges of strife, conflicts, hunger, and injustices.

He stressed the importance of embodying the essence of Christmas by focusing on Jesus Christ, the pivotal figure of the season, and striving to address the world’s struggles that contradict the message of love and salvation brought by Christ.

Bishop Badejo highlighted that the season is named after Jesus Christ for a reason, serving as a reminder to reflect on his teachings and to actively work towards improving the lives of others.

“He came for peace; let us all work for peace. He brought God’s love; let us all spread God’s love.

“Spare a thought and do something this Christmas for the poor, the sick and the suffering, the oppressed, victims of violence, greed, racism, tribalism and so on.

“Look at the manger and see how peace and harmony still elude us today and play your own part to create a better Christmas for all around you.

“Jesus Christ came into the world to destroy all the discomforts of humanity, especially sin. All who claim to celebrate Christmas must do the same,” he stated.’
