DSS arraigns six suspected IRS fraudsters in Ekiti

On Wednesday, the Department of State Services (DSS) arraigned six suspected fraudsters linked to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) before an Ado-Ekiti magistrate court in Ekiti State.

The Federal Republic of Nigeria filed a suit against Olarewaju Adesoye, Mayowa Nelson Ajisafe, Matthew Ilesanmi Olarenwaju, Olorunfemi Osho, Joseph Sunday Balogun, and Ajayi Temidayo for various alleged offenses related to misrepresentation of the Internal Revenue Service in the state.

The court read out a six-count charge, including alleged offenses such as false pretense, possession and use of fraudulent documents, counterfeit seals, and impersonation.

Representing the accused who pleaded not guilty, their lawyer Timi Omotoso acknowledged the charges and requested bail from Chief Magistrate Saka Afunso.

Granting bail, Magistrate Saka Afunso set bail at N500,000 for each defendant, along with the provision of sureties. The magistrate mandated that all sureties must have a credible source of income and be residents of Ado-Ekiti, cautioning them about the consequences if the accused absconded.

The case was adjourned until Friday, January 26, 2024.
