The Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court remanded Wasiu Oriyomi in the Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre on Tuesday, accused of defiling a 7-year-old girl.
The defendant, whose residential address remains undisclosed, faces a charge of defilement, to which he pleaded not guilty.
Justice Rahman Oshodi ordered Oriyomi’s remand in the correctional center where he is currently held, setting the case for trial commencement on February 22, 2024.
During the court proceedings, state counsel Ms Inumidun Solarin alleged that the defendant committed the offense in August 2022 on Oludele Street, Ikola Odunsi, Ikeja. Solarin stated that Oriyomi unlawfully engaged in sexual intercourse with the survivor, whose identity is withheld.
The prosecution cited that the alleged act violated Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. If convicted, Oriyomi faces the possibility of life imprisonment.
