Osimhen battles Messi, Ronaldo for 2023 IFFHS Men’s World Best Player

Nigeria’s forward, Victor Osimhen, has earned a nomination for the 2023 International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) Men’s World Best Player accolade.

The IFFHS revealed the list of nominees on its official website, announcing twenty-three other players as contenders for the prestigious award.

Among the nominees are renowned football stars such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Antoine Griezman, Bukayo Saka, Vinicius Junior, Mohamed Salah, Martin Odegaard, Harry Kane, Kevin De Bruyne, and Jude Bellingham.

Osimhen’s nomination follows his exceptional performances for Napoli during the 2022/23 season. Notably, he emerged as the leading scorer in Serie A last season, netting 26 goals from 32 appearances.

The 24-year-old received recognition as the Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) Serie A Player of the Year for the 2022/23 season and remains a contender for the 2023 CAF Player of the Year award.
