Seven students from the Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA) in Nasarawa State, abducted four days prior, have been released by their captors. Their freedom was granted on Sunday, December 10, 2023, owing to the collaborative efforts of a team comprising the military and other security forces.
Ibrahim Ogabo, the President of the Student Representative Council, confirmed this positive development to journalists. The group, consisting of three females and four males, is currently receiving essential medical care and support at the school’s clinic.
The abduction occurred last Wednesday night when the students were taken from their off-campus accommodation in Gandu village, prompting immediate protests from their fellow students. The demonstrators demanded the release of their peers and called for heightened security measures in the area.
Gandu, located near the University, accommodates a significant population of students and lecturers. Unfortunately, the village has become a hotspot for criminal activities, including kidnappings and robberies, impacting both students, locals, and businesses in the area.
