Wike: I won’t surrender Rivers to blackmail, intimidation – Fubara

Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has firmly stated his refusal to succumb to any form of blackmail or intimidation, emphasizing that the state belongs to its people and he is committed to safeguarding it from such tactics. He conveyed this stance during the quarterly general meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers in Port Harcourt.

A rift had emerged between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, concerning the state’s political structure. Wike, also the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), accused Fubara of neglecting the framework that propelled him into office. This discord even led to an attempt to impeach Fubara, which was eventually halted due to President Bola Tinubu’s intervention.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Fubara underlined, “Let us not forget that Rivers State is our collective inheritance, presently under my watch, to protect, defend, and advance it as the governor.

“I assure you that I will not fail in this responsibility, nor will I surrender our mandate and progress to intimidation, blackmail, and deliberate sabotage.

“I reaffirm my earlier statement and recommit myself to the path of peace as there is nothing to gain in a state of needless crisis.”

Fubara said no society would thrive without peace and security.
