Gunmen kidnap Nasarawa varsity students

Bandits abducted ten students from the Federal University of Lafia in Nasarawa State during the early hours of Thursday in Gandu village, situated approximately two kilometers from the school.

An anonymous resident of the area informed reporters that the assailants raided the student community opposite the university’s permanent location around 2 a.m. on Thursday. They fired shots sporadically, causing students to flee in search of safety. The entire operation lasted approximately two hours.

Addressing the incident in Lafia, the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abubakar Ibrahim, stated that the precise number of abducted students was yet to be confirmed.

He said, “It is too early to ascertain the exact number of students because those affected are not living within the school, but off campus.”

Meanwhile, university students had launched a peaceful protest calling for an end to the ongoing kidnapping of their colleagues.

It should be emphasized that there have been numerous abductions of university students in recent years.

The state government, in concert with security agencies, had prepared several times to prevent further attacks on the institution, but the kidnappers continued their actions unabated till now.

The state Police command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said the details of the kidnap were still sketchy.
