Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri highlighted that the porous international borders have aggravated insecurity within the state.
During a courtesy visit by the new State Controller of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mohammed Adamu, Fintiri emphasized the need for technological deployment to fortify the international borders surrounding Adamawa State.
He underscored the urgency of implementing efficient measures due to the state’s nine local government areas that share borders with Cameroon, emphasizing the necessity for stringent security measures along these extensive borders.
“Most of the elements of security breaches come from the porous borders,” the governor said, adding that a huge number of criminals operating in the state are foreigners.
He expressed gladness with reforms in the issuance of international passports by the NIS but urged the Service to ensure that non-Nigerians are not registered.
“Adamawa has many foreigners who share many things in common with indigenes,” Fintiri said.
Earlier in his remarks, the new NIS state comptroller said the various border entry points would be tightened to enhance security.
