Wahab Hameed found himself in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after the Ikeja High Court remanded him on Wednesday.
The charges against him involve alleged involvement in conspiracy and vote buying during the 2023 Presidential and National Assembly Elections.
Justice Ismail Ijelu detained Hameed after he admitted guilt to two charges—conspiracy and bribery—brought by the EFCC. The trial is scheduled for a review of the case’s details and a judgment on December 7.
During the court proceedings reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Hameed claimed he couldn’t understand or speak English. He requested that the allegations be presented to him in Yoruba.
The EFCC prosecutor, Samuel Daji, informed the court that on February 25, Hameed collaborated with Segun Ijitola (currently evading arrest) to induce voters during the 2023 elections, particularly at Unit 28, Gbaja Girls Junior High School in Surulere. Daji alleged that Hameed, purportedly a member of the All Progressives Congress, committed this offense alongside his accomplice at the specified location.
In response to the developments, Mr. Olabiyi Ademola, the defense counsel, agreed to the trial’s adjournment to December 7 and requested that Hameed remain in EFCC custody.
