On Wednesday, the Nigerian Army initiated a military initiative named ‘Operation Golden Dawn III’ aimed at addressing security concerns within Abia State.
The launch of this exercise took place at the 14 Brigade Step-Up Headquarters in Isuochi, Umunneochi Local Government Area, and was overseen by Governor Alex Otti.
Represented by Mr. Macdonald Uba, his Special Assistant on Security, Otti expressed optimism regarding the operation’s ability to root out criminal elements scattered across the state’s landscapes.
He emphasized that this endeavor would provide added support to the military and other security forces in curbing crime and criminal activities, especially during the Yuletide season.
Furthermore, the governor urged all participating officers and personnel to adhere strictly to the Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct throughout the course of the exercise.
According to him, “This is to avoid any action that may infringe on the rights of the citizens and the host community.
“May I assure the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in Abia of our continued support within available resources, to enable them to carry out their constitutional responsibilities.”
In his welcome address, Brig.-Gen. Nsikak Edet, Commander, 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, explained that Operation Golden Dawn III is one of the exercises initiated by the Army in the South-East.
According to him, the exercise was designed to improve the security of law-abiding residents during the Yuletide season.
