The Cross River State Police Command has affirmed its commitment to providing effective policing services throughout the state during the annual Calabar Carnival, which commenced on Friday.
This assurance was conveyed in a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, in Calabar on Monday and shared with the press.
Ugbo highlighted the deployment of police officers across the state, specifically at leisure centers and critical infrastructure, particularly in the capital city. This strategic deployment aims to ensure comprehensive security coverage during the festival.
Additionally, she mentioned that the Commissioner of Police, Gyogon Grimah, has mandated thorough vehicular and foot patrols across Calabar before, during, and after the festival period to bolster security measures.
The Command warned all “potential” dealers and users of fireworks to desist from the illegitimate venture.
According to the statement, the commissioner urged parents and guardians to keep their children and wards away from fireworks merchants due to the current security scenario across the country.
“Residents are warned to be wary of some dastardly criminal elements operating in motorcycles to rob people within Calabar and its environs.
“We will also be invoking the extant state and federal laws accordingly,” Ugbo stated.
