In a horrifying incident at Gateway Polytechnic (ICT), Sapaade, Ogun State, suspected armed robbers wreaked havoc, leaving one student dead and nine others injured during a brazen attack on off-campus hostels in Ode Remo. The assailants, armed with guns, struck in the early hours of Saturday, targeting students residing in Sapaade, Ode, Ipara, and Isara.
This distressing event follows closely on the heels of a three-day closure by the school’s management, prompted by student protests against the recent rape of female students. The assailants, believed to be the same criminals, returned to Ode and launched a vicious assault on students’ hostels.
Sources indicate that the gun-wielding hoodlums forcefully invaded the students’ hostel around 3 am, causing chaos and leaving one person dead. Nine others, including a landlord, sustained injuries in the Larufi area of Ode. Viral clips of the attack reveal shattered doors, broken windows, and walls bearing the scars of bullet impacts.
The attackers reportedly used heavy stones to break windows, facilitating their entry into the hostels. A witness recounted, “I heard a gunshot around 3 am, and when I woke up this morning, I was told they shot nine students and one landlord. They were taken to the hospital, but one died. They stole a car to escape.”
This harrowing incident raises concerns about the safety and security of students, prompting urgent calls for enhanced measures to protect the campus community from such violent threats.
