Abba Moro worried over confusing judgements of election petitions

Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro expressed concerns about the judiciary’s inconsistent and unconvincing rulings on election petitions.

Speaking at an Expanded Stakeholders Meeting of the Benue State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Makurdi, Moro cautioned against a potential descent into lawlessness, citing the rising disregard for the rule of law, particularly regarding chaotic judgments on election petitions.

He highlighted these challenging times faced by Nigerians, marked by insecurity, a faltering economy, and the steep decline of the Naira. As the leader of the opposition bloc in the Senate, Moro pledged to strive for a restoration of stability and fairness.

In his remarks, Sir John Ngbede, the Benue State PDP Chairman, commended the party’s members for their steadfastness and dedication. He emphasized the PDP’s historical record of performance and collaboration with the people since 1999, affirming its position as the preferred party in Benue.

Ngbede, who also served as the 2023 deputy governorship candidate for Benue PDP, reiterated his commitment to steering the party with unwavering dedication. He emphasized the party’s responsibility to hold the government accountable.

Meanwhile, Engr. Titus Uba, the PDP’s governorship candidate in Benue, urged party members to maintain optimism regarding the justice system. He expressed hope for a favorable outcome in his petition challenging the Court of Appeal’s decision upholding Governor Hyacinth Alia’s election. Uba extended gratitude to the party’s leadership and supporters for their steadfastness during the legal battle.
