In the ongoing legal battle for the Rivers State governorship seat, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Tonye Cole, who contested against the victory of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), faced a setback as the appellate court upheld Fubara’s election win.
Channels TV reported that the appellate court dismissed petitions from both the APC and Accord Party, providing a decisive judgment in favor of Governor Fubara. The APC candidate, Mr. Cole, had sought a judgment compelling INEC to declare him the victor of the March governorship election in Rivers.
Despite the dismissal of Cole’s petition by the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in October, he pursued an appeal to a higher court. However, on Tuesday, the appellate court affirmed the Tribunal’s decision, cementing Fubara’s victory in the October election.
