Just In: Court adjourns Emefiele’s case till January 18

The Federal Capital Territory High Court has set January 18, 2024, as the next date for the ongoing trial concerning an alleged procurement fraud involving former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Emefiele faces accusations of leveraging his position to bestow undue advantages on Sa’adatu Yaro, a CBN staff member, through the allocation of a contract worth N1.2 billion for the procurement of 43 vehicles between 2018 and 2020.

Initially detained at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending a ruling on his bail application on November 22, Emefiele was later granted bail by Justice Hamza Muazu. The bail sum was set at N300 million, requiring two sureties in similar value.

The judge specified that the sureties must possess certificates of occupancy and property titles within Abuja’s Maitama district.

However, Emefiele has yet to fulfill the bail conditions, as armed personnel from the Nigerian Correctional Service brought him to court and subsequently escorted him away.
