Appeal court to deliver judgment on Rivers guber election today

Today, the Appeal Court in Lagos State is poised to announce its verdict on the governorship election petition brought forth by Patrick Tonye-Cole, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Rivers State, against Governor Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This judgment follows a period of barely two weeks since both parties presented and concluded their final written arguments.

Cole’s petition urges the court to compel INEC to declare him the victor of the March governorship election in Rivers. His argument revolves around Fubara’s alleged continuation of duties as the State’s Accountant-General even after being nominated as the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate.

Furthermore, he has cited irregularities in the election process among other grievances.
