The Abuja-based Court of Appeal has removed Jamilu Umaru Dahiru Barade, the Deputy Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, who belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In its recent ruling, the three-man panel of Justices overturned the Bauchi State House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal’s decision, which had previously affirmed Barade as the duly elected representative for Bauchi Central State Constituency.
Subsequently, the panel mandated a fresh election in specific polling units within the constituency where Aliyu Abdullahi Ilela of the All Progressives Congress (APC) alleged instances of over-voting.
The court directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the earlier issued Certificate of Return to the Deputy Speaker and organize a re-run election in the affected polling units.
This judgment arrives shortly after the appellate court also ousted the House Speaker, Abubakar Sulaiman, in a separate ruling, as reported by Iwitnesslive.
