Gov Otu charged to emphasise more on security

Governor Prince Bassey Otu of Cross River State has been urged to prioritize enhancing security within the state. Recent reports highlight a resurgence of kidnapping and other criminal activities in Calabar, the state capital.

Elder Samuel Chukwudi, an oil mogul, made this appeal at Zone Six, the Headquarters of the Nigeria Police in Calabar. Despite acknowledging the state government’s commendable efforts in addressing insecurity in recent months, Chukwudi emphasized the need for a concentrated focus on improving security measures.

Chukwudi said, “As more visitors and holidaymakers were being expected for the 32-day annual Calabar Carnival festival, Gov Otu should go the extra mile to beef up security in Calabar and parts of the state because, without it, fears of safety would continue to play in the minds of citizens, visitors and residents.

“When kidnapping and armed robbery continue to prevail, visitors and residents would be very scared.”
