Burna Boy got $5m advance payment from record label – Rapper Phenom

Nigerian hip-hop artist Phenom has disclosed details about Burna Boy’s signing with American record label Atlantic Records in 2017, revealing that the Grammy-winning singer received a substantial $5 million advance payment.

Phenom attributed this transaction to Matthew ‘Baus’ Adesuyan, the owner of Bad Habit, an Atlantic Records imprint to which Burna Boy is affiliated. This revelation came to light during Phenom’s appearance on The Yarns podcast.

Additionally, Phenom expressed his willingness to return to rapping if offered a $1 million advance payment by any record label. He highlighted the substantial contracts offered to American rappers and emphasized that even before Burna Boy’s music resurgence, the connection from Matthew ‘Baus’ Adesuyan led to a $5 million deal for the singer.

Phenom also predicted that rising rappers like Odumodublvck might transition to singing as he believes hip-hop is no longer as financially rewarding.

“If someone like Odumodublvck is given $100,000 advance by his label, he will have to drop rap, start singing and enter TikTok to make it back it for the label,” he said.
