Tinubu saves Akeredolu, resolves Ondo crisis

Ondo State House of Assembly has shelved the idea of impeaching Govenor Rotimi Akeredolu following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.

In the political crisis in Ondo State, the opposing sides agreed to put their differences aside and work together. The state’s deputy, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, also agreed to reconcile with Governor Akeredolu.

This decision came after President Bola Tinubu intervened in the crisis, which saw both sides attempting to remove either the Governor or the Deputy Governor. Recently, there were indications that the Ondo State House of Assembly might declare Aiyedatiwa as the acting Governor.

However, 11 lawmakers showed support for him, and it was rumored that outside forces had reached out to them. The 11 lawmakers postponed their session that was scheduled for yesterday.

One of the lawmakers, who pleaded anonymity, said the sitting was part of the plans hatched in Abuja alongside the 11 lawmakers to declare Governor Akeredolu incapacitated and declare Aiyedatiwa governor.

President Bola Tinubu yesterday waded into the feud between Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa.

Speaker of the Assembly, Oladiji Olamide, had earlier confirmed the meeting with President Tinubu saying that the outcome of the meeting would determine the next line of action.

Speaker Oladiji said the Friday’s plenary was to declare Aiyedatiwa as Acting Governor and not to declare Akeredolu as incapacitated.

“Our sitting was to declare Aiyedatiwa as Acting Governor. The governor is still alive.”
