Ondo crisis: Tinubu meets Ayedatiwa, gov’s aides

President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to convene with aides of Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and Deputy Governor Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday afternoon. The purpose of this meeting is to address the ongoing leadership crisis in the state.

Sources within the Villa confirmed that the meeting, likely to commence at 2 pm, will involve key stakeholders, including members of the Ondo State House of Assembly, among others.

This gathering follows closely after Ondo State Elders and Leaders urged the President to urgently step in and resolve the constitutional crisis in the state, aiming to prevent a potential breakdown of law and order.

The Elders and Leaders, in a letter directed to the President and signed by convener Reuben Fasontanti and secretary Bakkita Bello, appealed to both the state and national leaderships of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to offer necessary guidance to the government officials and ensure order and discipline within their ranks.

Moreover, the elders emphasized their stance that neither the Governor nor his Deputy Governor should face impeachment by the State House of Assembly.

“All unelected persons should allow the three arms of government to find a lasting solution to the current crisis,” they had appealed.

Ondo state has been a hotbed of political uncertainty in the past months as the Governor, Akeredolu, had been away in Germany undergoing medical treatment.

Although Akeredolu returned to Nigeria in the first week of September after a three-month medical leave, he had been operating from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

In his absence, his deputy, Aiyedatiwa, is facing an impeachment process initiated by Ondo lawmakers over allegations of gross misconduct.

Meanwhile,  Tinubu had ordered the police to withdraw from the premises of the Ondo State House of Assembly in Akure.
