Mining: Osun to begin processes in 2024

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, unveiled plans for the commencement of mining processes in the state by 2024. He emphasized the stringent enforcement of environmental standards within the mining industry and highlighted the ongoing efforts to clean up polluted environments.

The governor disclosed these developments while addressing a situation report presented by Prof. Lukman Adekilekun Jimoda, the Special Adviser on Mining and Solid Minerals, in Osogbo on Thursday. Reflecting on a commitment made a year earlier to revamp the mining sector for optimal benefit from the state’s mineral resources, Governor Adeleke underscored the imperative of ensuring maximum returns.

Emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance toward environmental degradation in mining operations, Governor Adeleke commended the strides and achievements made by his administration in advancing the mining sector.

“We are recording an increase in revenue generation. Accumulated service charges on our licenses have been cleared. We are at the tail end of upgrading our exploration leases to mining leases. This will bring more investors.

“I am elated to report that we have fulfilled that promise within a year of assuming office,” the Governor noted, adding that he was particularly elated with the environmental standard enforcement.

Speaking earlier, Prof Jimoda assured Governor Adeleke that no effort was being spared to implement the mining sector reform as laid out by his administration.
