Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has commended the Court of Appeal’s decision, confirming his win in the state’s March 18, 2023, gubernatorial election.
Following the challenge by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Isah Ashiru, regarding the Independent National Electoral Commission’s declaration of Sani as the victor, the INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Lawal Bilbis, disclosed that Sani secured 730,002 votes, while Ashiru garnered 719,196 votes. Other candidates’ vote counts were also mentioned.
In response to the Appeal Court’s affirmation of the election tribunal’s judgment, which upheld Sani’s victory, the governor expressed delight and gratitude. He extended an olive branch to all opposing parties, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in advancing the state in line with the #SUSTAINKaduna agenda.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mohammed Shehu, conveyed the governor’s sentiments in a statement released to the press in Kaduna on Friday. Sani lauded the diligence and thoroughness of both the tribunal and the appellate court, affirming his unwavering confidence in the nation’s judicial system.
He said, “Today, I received the news of the Appeal Court verdict. I acknowledge and appreciate the diligence and thoroughness of the Kaduna State Elections Petition Tribunal and the Appeal Court for arriving at this verdict today.
“I have always remained confident in our judicial process. It is now time to peacefully move forward and continue to work assiduously for the people of Kaduna without distractions as the task ahead of us is huge.
“The Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, and my humble self appreciate the All Progressives Congress family, and the good people of Kaduna for their unflinching support during this entire process
“I urge my brothers in the opposition to accept this verdict in good faith and as the will of the people. It is time to come together as one to move our great state forward.”
Sani promised to continue to encourage dialogue with all stakeholders and to maintain an open-door policy.
