Sokoto Government Issues Warning to MDAs Against Rejecting Corps Members

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has cautioned Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the state against refusing National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to their establishments.

 The governor, speaking during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘C’ Stream I NYSC orientation at the Wamakko permanent orientation camp, emphasized that the government disapproves of such behavior, which causes unnecessary inconvenience and hardship for corps members.

Aliyu, represented by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Alhaji Umar Gosta, stated that the government will treat seriously any reported case of corps member rejection. 

He reiterated the NYSC’s primary objective to promote unity and integration among Nigeria’s diverse nationalities through its youth participants.

The Governor disclosed that the state government adopted the policy of engaging a greater percentage of corps members in the education sector to provide a sound educational system upon which its transformation agenda could be realised.

He, therefore, urged them to pursue the realisation of this goal in practical terms by adopting their host communities as their home and joining in contributing to the community they were posted in the state. He assured them of adequate security.

Governor Aliyu promised that the government would continue to provide the enabling environment for them to discharge their responsibilities and assured them of their regular allowances from the state government.

In his remarks, the state Coordinator of NYSC, Usman Yakubu Yaro commended the corps members for the discipline and commitment they exhibited throughout the exercise, and urged them to take the good conduct to their places of primary assignment.”

“Remember, this is an opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of the country and your performance can earn them special recognition and awards at the local, state and national levels.”

Yaro appreciated Aliyu, Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar; stakeholders, the military, police and other sister security agencies for their support during the orientation period.

No less than 1030 corps members took part in the three-week orientation course.
