Ex-international, Emeka Amadi, has jumped into the defence of the embattled Super Eagles goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, who has come under criticism for his performances, especially in the team’s 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match on Sunday.
The Omonia Nicosia goalkeeper has been blamed by many Nigerians for the goal Zimbabwe scored from a freekick but Amadi, a retired goalie, inisted that Walter Musona’s screamer could beat any shot-stoppers in the world.
The former FC Oberneuland goalkeeper explained that the free-kick leading to Zimbabwe’s goal was impeccably executed and virtually impossible for any goalkeeper to save.
“It is not the fault of Francis Uzoho; the free-kick was well taken. The effort came from a place where no goalkeeper could save it; the ball swerved from in to out, making it hard for a keeper to make a save. So, for me, that ball can beat any goalkeeper,” he said.
The team will face South Africa in a crucial home game in June 2024, and a win for South Africa would propel them ahead in the group standings, intensifying the pressure on Nigeria to secure vital points for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification quest.
