Former Benue LG Boss, Freed from Kidnappers, Reveals Unusual Diet of Pawpaw

Mrs. Amina Audu, the abducted chairperson of Okpokwu Local Government Area in Benue State, has been released by her captors. Audu, who spoke to our correspondent on Friday, revealed that they were freed on Thursday between 7 pm and 8 pm.

The chairman and her driver were kidnapped on Monday by suspected armed herders along Naka-Makurdi Road. Audu recounted their experience, mentioning that they were provided with a diet of pawpaw and garri during their captivity.

She said, “You know how harrowing it is to be with kidnappers. I can not even say much now.”

Asked what were they fed for the four days, she said, “They (kidnappers) don’t have food in the bush, they only gave us pawpaw and garri to drink.”

Audu could not give the actual amount the kidnappers collected as ransom.

When asked she said, “I can not say  because I have not discussed that with  those who negotiated our release.”

Naka/Makurdi Road has become notorious for kidnapping.

Some motorists who spoke to our correspondent said the deplorable state of the road was responsible for the frequent abductions along the federal highway.

A commercial driver who identified himself as Adole said, “Some of us have abandoned Naka/Makurdi Road due to daily abduction of road users. We have opted for Makurdi/Aliade Road.”
