Justice Hamza Muazu from the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, has decreed that the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, be held in Kuje prison while awaiting a decision on his bail plea.
Emefiele’s stay in prison is set until November 22, the date when the court will rule on his bail application.
Matthew Burkaa SAN, his chief counsel, presented the bail request, contested vehemently by Rotimi Oyedepo on behalf of the Federal Government.
Following arguments from both sides, Justice Muazu deferred a bench ruling due to the extensive references made by both parties.
The Judge expressed the need for time to review the references and examine the evidence provided by Emefiele in support of his bail plea.
As of this report, Kuje prison officials have been contacted to arrange transportation for Emefiele to the prison.
