Court Revokes Bail of Ex-Accountant General's Co-defendant

The bail initially granted to Geoffrey Akindele, a co-defendant in the trial involving the former Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, has been revoked. Akindele faces charges of fraudulent diversion of public funds totaling N109.5 million alongside Idris, Idris Mohammed, Kudu Usman, and Gezawa Commodity Market and Exchange Limited.

During Tuesday’s court session, Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court noted Akindele’s absence, raising concerns and prompting inquiries from the defense counsel, S. E. Adino, about his whereabouts.

Akindele’s counsel,  Adino, told the court that his client was en route to court and had consistently attended previous hearings.

The judge said it was incumbent on a defendant on bail to reciprocate the gesture by always attending court.

He, however, revoked his bail and ordered the Commissioner of Police in the FCT and the prosecuting agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to arrest Akindele and produce him in court on the next adjourned date
Halilu adjourned the matter till February 1, 2024 for a hearing.
