Members of the Rivers State Police Command have successfully apprehended an individual identified as Alabo, accused of perpetrating a gruesome machete attack on his female tenant and her husband at Ekwulobia Street in Mile 3, Diobu, Port Harcourt.
The distressing incident unfolded on May 15, 2022, when Alabo, reportedly driven by romantic rejection, pursued Comfort Nwagadi, his female tenant, and subjected her to multiple machete wounds. Not stopping there, the landlord also viciously assaulted the woman’s husband, who bravely intervened to protect his wife, resulting in additional injuries.
Realizing the severity of his actions, Alabo hastily fled the scene in an attempt to evade arrest. Despite his efforts to escape justice, the diligent efforts of the police, who had been on his trail for months, culminated in his arrest on a Sunday.
Mrs. Nwagadi, the victim, verified the capture of the suspect, her fleeing landlord, in a voice note shared with our correspondent on Monday. Recounting the harrowing encounter, she detailed how Alabo ambushed her immediately upon entering the compound that fateful day, leaving an indelible mark on their lives.
She said her landlord attacked her with a machete the moment she entered the compound cutting her on her head and fingers.
“That day, he also attacked my husband who tried to intervene. Alabo cut him with the machete too and ran away that night. Since then, he had not been seen.
“But yesterday, the Azikiwe Road Police Division called that they had arrested him. Now that he has been arrested, all I want is justice,” she stated.
The case file was transferred from the Azikiwe Police Division to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department Unit of the command on the directive of the then Commissioner of Police.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the state Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said she would find out from the Azikiwe Police Station and get back to our correspondent.
She had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report on Monday evening.
