Douye Diri, the incumbent governor of Bayelsa State and the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, has been proclaimed the victor of the state governorship election held last Saturday.
Prof Faruq Kuta, the Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, declared Diri the winner of the election on Monday at the collation center.
Diri polled 175,196 votes, defeating his nearest challenger, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, who received 110,108 votes, and the Labour Party, which received 905 votes.
