Student leaders nationwide have responded to the nomination of Sunday Asefon, former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), as the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Student Engagements.
Confirmation of Asefon’s appointment came through a letter dated October 31, 2023, from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
In a statement released on Saturday and provided to DAILY POST, The G7, representing the student leaders, expressed approval of Asefon’s appointment, describing it as a fitting choice.
The statement, signed by Olusegun Clement, Former Special Assistant on Students Affairs to Former Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, asserted that Tinubu demonstrated sound judgment in selecting Asefon as the liaison for engaging with Nigerian students.
Clement highlighted Asefon’s track record as the immediate past NANS President, affirming confidence in his ability to fulfill his responsibilities.
The student leader assured Tinubu of widespread student support for his government, pledging that students nationwide would actively contribute to the success of his administration.
“We have received the news of the appointment of the former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Comrade Sunday Asefon, as the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Student engagements.
“This development has rekindled the trust of the Nigerian students and youths in the government of Mr Tinubu. This move to us is a testament that Mr President understands the principles of “ Putting a round peg in a round hole.”
“Not just his achievements while in office as the president of NANS but the person whom I have known for years, will make me quickly align with the president that Mr Asefon will deliver on his new appointment.
“I, chief Clement, G7 and other students leaders in Nigeria particularly in the Southwest region, however, express our joy to the president, assuring that our structures across the country will do everything possible to support your government henceforth,” Clement’s statement read partly.
