To address the rising number of road accidents in Ogun State, particularly among drivers of articulated vehicles and commercial buses, Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu has implemented measures aimed at promoting road safety.
Ogun State police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, revealed that after a thorough analysis, CP Alamutu directed the collaboration of the Area Commander in Sagamu and other security agencies with stakeholders to install safety signboards along highways.
These signboards are intended to inform motorists about recommended speed limits and encourage safer driving practices.
As the festive season approaches, Alamutu urged all road users, especially those traveling on the Lagos-Ibadan highway, to exercise caution and avoid reckless driving behaviors that pose risks to themselves and others.
He emphasized the importance of avoiding speeding, driving under the influence, overloading, using faulty equipment, and other actions that constitute road traffic violations and can lead to avoidable fatalities.
In order to ensure compliance, the CP urged motorists to adhere to road signs, cooperate with the Motor Traffic Department of the police, and follow their instructions on the road.
Additionally, those transporting fuel or engaging in activities involving burning bushes for games were advised to exercise extra caution to prevent uncontrollable fire incidents that could endanger lives and properties.
