Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has re-emphasized the need to inculcate professionalism in the state’s civil service, particularly in the Human Resources management cadre.
The governor’s response to a request by the leadership of the Nigerian Institute of Personnel Managers (NIPM) to set their certification as a prerequisite for Human Resources Management cadre in the civil service, those who desire to assume positions in the service may henceforth be made to sit for and pass professional examinations.
All these were revealed when the leadership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Managers (CIPM) paid him a visit at the Lagos House, Marina, Lagos.
The governor also acknowledged the positive impact of the NIPM on the performance of its members in the state’s civil service.
“In the last ten years, the CIPM has risen and has seen phenomenal growth and the institute has taken its place in the committee of the professional bodies, Sanwo-Olu said, stressing that he is “not unaware that the Lagos state sees the benefits of what the institute brings to the professional cadre of the human reader cader of the civil service.
“I have been an advocate, having been a Commissioner for Establishment, Training and Pension at some time, we need to put professional trends in all of the possible cadre that we have and I’m happy that that trajectory has continued to see a lot of public servants and civil servants who take professional exams from the institute.” He enthused.
Led by the chairman of its governing council, Mr. Olusegun Mojeed, President of the institute said they were at the State House to inform Sanwo-Olu, who is also a member of the institute, about the upcoming 55th Anniversary of the professional body.
The CIPM President also sought partnership support for its upcoming event, as he requested his physical presence at the event.
While commending Sanwo-Olu for transforming the face of the state through massive infrastructural transformation across the length and breadth of the state, he noted that they are all geared towards easing the burden of the average Lagosian and bringing progress and prosperity to the people of greater Lagos.
Listing some of the governor’s achievements said: “Some of these include the Blue Line and the Red Line rail project, the construction of and rehabilitation of roads at various locations in the state, repositioning of the health sector through the building of more centers at the grass root, job creation, especially through the Lagos bus service limited and the lagferry. Rehabilitation of public schools across various LGAs, and so on.”
He states that Lagos has become a role model to other states under Sanwo-Olu.
“The Lagos state service is seen and regarded as primus inter pares. Treating your people as an investment to be nurtured is a global best practice” he said.
