Off-cycle polls: FRSC deploys 1,500 personnel to enforce movement restriction

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Dauda Biu, has issued instructions for the deployment of 1,500 Corps personnel and 35 vehicles to the states of Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa. This deployment aims to bolster the enforcement of restrictions during the upcoming off-cycle elections scheduled for November 11, 2023.

In a statement released by the FRSC’s spokesperson, Bisi Kazeem, on Wednesday, Biu instructed the Corps operatives to ensure effective cooperation with the Nigerian Police Force, the Independent National Electoral Commission, and other security agencies in implementing the restrictions on vehicular movement.

“In the directives issued, the Corps Operatives drafted to cover the elections were equally been mandated to clear obstructions from the roads, carry out rescue operations in case of emergencies, and maintain orderliness in polling booths.”

Biu warned the personnel deployed to play an active role in the democratic exercise to exhibit the highest sense of professionalism and ingenuity and avoid any temptation that could lead to abuse of the rights of electorates.

While reading out the marching order to the personnel, the Corps Marshal called on the electorates in the state to comply with all regulations, including restrictions as would be announced.
