LP lawmakers would not have collected N160m SUVs if I’d won- Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has voiced his thoughts on the recent allocation of N160 million SUVs to lawmakers. Obi expressed that this situation would have been different if the Labour Party had won the presidential election. He noted that the vehicles are for official use and should be returned after their term in office. Obi shared his perspective during a press conference in Abuja, highlighting the need for a different approach had his party come to power.
“Let me start with the issue of Labour Party members in the House, I have actually discussed this issue with them. I heard that these vehicles are official cars,” Obi said during a press conference in Abuja on Monday.
“Which means they have to make use of them while in office. They are meant for official use so it’s not as if it’s their vehicles.
“They are meant to use them while they’re in the Senate but you know how things work here. It’s not going to be like that.
“But what I tell people is that had Labour been in office[won the presidency] nobody would have contemplated that.
“You shouldn’t even do the wrong thing and start correcting it. It should not even be mentioned in the first place.”
