31-year-old in court for stealing property worth N1.1m

On Friday, the Lagos Police brought a 31-year-old man, Lukman Alao, before a Magistrates’ court in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, on charges of conspiring with others, who remain at large, to commit theft amounting to N1,118,542.

Alao is facing two counts related to conspiracy to commit a felony and theft.

The defendant, however, entered a plea of not guilty.

The prosecutor, Sup. Friday Ekundayo, informed the court that the defendant committed the offenses between September 20 and 30 in the Magbon Segun area of Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.

Ekundayo detailed that the defendant, along with his accomplices who are still at large, stole 66 bags of cement valued at N343,200; 22 pieces of 16mm iron rods valued at N301,536, as well as 49 bags of cement valued at N254,500.

The prosecutor further added that the defendant and his associates also stole 42 pieces of 10mm iron rods valued at N159,301 and intentionally damaged a CCTV camera with a memory card, valued at N60,000, which belonged to Mr. Francis Awoyera.

According to the prosecutor, the offenses are in violation of Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Olumide Fusika, granted the defendant bail in the amount of N500,000, with two sureties required to provide the same sum.

Fusika adjourned the case until November 11 for further proceedings.
