Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, announced on Tuesday that he acknowledges the verdict of the Appeal Court confirming Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party as the rightful Senator for Kogi Central.
After the Police Council meeting at the Aso Rock Villa, Governor Bello spoke to State House correspondents, expressing his acceptance of the court’s decision and extending his congratulations to Barrister Natasha, who has been affirmed as the Senator representing Kogi Central.
He stated, “I, as the executive governor of Kogi State received the news of the decision of the Court of Appeal nullifying the election of Senator Abubakar Ohere and affirming Barrister Natasha Akpoti as the senator representing Kogi Central.”
Previously, the court had dismissed an appeal by Ohere of the All Progressives Congress for lacking merit. In September, the state Election Petitions Tribunal declared Akpoti-Uduaghan the winner of the Kogi Central Senatorial election, also invalidating Ohere’s victory.
The tribunal’s chairman, Justice K. A. Orjiako, delivered a unanimous judgment, revealing that Ohere’s results were inflated in nine polling units in the Ajaokuta Local Government Area.
